SPA MASSAGE [Full Body or Mini Massage]

A hands on body massage that involves the manipulation of superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue using various techniques, to enhance function, aid in the healing process, decrease muscle reflex activity, inhibit motor-neuron excitability, as well as to promote relaxation and well-being.  The techniques may involve tension, motion, or vibration, done manually or with mechanical aids.  The target tissues may include muscles tendons ligaments fascia skin joints and other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels or organs of the digestive system.  This massage is usually applied with the hands, fingers, elbows, forearm and occasionally with the knees and feet.

A massage technique characterized by its firm, yet calming pressure that improves blood circulation, eases muscle tensions and improves flexibility.  The massage employs a series of long gliding strokes, kneading of the muscles and vibration tapping.  The various massage techniques that are applied during the treatment encourage blood circulation and disposal of bodily wastes.  The present day sports massage is a direct descendant of the Swedish massage.

This massage is given fully clothed while the client is sitting in a chair.  It focuses on the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp, face and ears.  The many benefits include increased oxygen supply to the brain, draining of accumulated toxins,  relaxation of tight and painful muscles, ease of stiffness and breaking down of knots in muscles, increased joint mobility, healthy, lustrous shine for hair, improved skin condition, relief of mental tiredness, stress, depression, greater mental alertness, concentration and clearer thinking, general relaxation and improved lymphatic drainage.

This is also a fully clothed massage given while the client is lying on the massage table.  The concentration is on the head and face but the client also receives a relaxing hand and foot massage. The many benefits include a younger more relaxed appearance, reduced wrinkles and crows feet, reduced puffiness and under-eye discoloration, increased skin elasticity,  improved skin tone, normalized oil production, smooth skin, relief of mental tiredness, stress, depression, greater mental alertness and concentration, brighter, more alert eyes, improved general condition of skin, healthy glow, help preventing wrinkles and age spots and general relaxation.  It can also help to relieve headaches, anxiety, fatigue, eyestrain, tension headaches, migraines, earaches, tinnitus, jaw aches and sinus congestion.

Hot stone massage is a very detoxifying, specialty massage where the therapist uses smooth, heated stones, either as an extension of their own hands, or by placing them strategically on the body.  The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up and relax tight muscles so the therapist can work more deeply and  effectively.  At this spa we use heated basalt, jade or marble stones.

A method that combines Hot Stone Massage with the use of Cold stones.  In addition to the benefits of Hot Stone Massage, the cold stones promote circulation and act as a powerful decongestant for the body.  The treatment can ease inflamed tissues, decrease muscle spasms and can help to reduce welling or fluid build-up.  Switching between cold and hot applications causes blood vessels to alternately dilate and constrict, leading to increased movement of fluids within the body, increased removal of toxins and increased healing.  This type of treatment is not recommended for people with circulatory problems because they may be too sensitive to the sudden, increased circulation.

Reflexology induces a state of deep relaxation by opening neural pathways.  It increases circulation, improving blood flow throughout the body and cleanses the body of toxins and impurities.  It also stimulates the central nervous system and energy work throughout the body.

REIKI [The Healing Touch]

A gentle hands on technique used in many hospitals in North America for stress relief, relaxation and health.  The Reiki practitioner’s focus is on conducting healing energy or Qi, into a client, so as to augment the client's own natural healing energy.  The Qi energy is used to heal any issue on the physical, mental, emotional and/or spiritual levels.  The treatment is without unwelcome side effects and results in the body entering a very relaxed healing state.

There are 32 bars of energy that run through and around your head.  They store the electromagnetic component of all the thoughts, ideas, attitudes, decisions and beliefs that you have ever had about anything.  There are bars for healing, body, control, awareness, creativity, power, aging, sex, and money just to name a few.  By gently touching these points on the head, the energy and barriers dissipate and the electromagnetic charge is released.  Releasing stuck energy is like deleting old files off of your computer.  You now have more space to create something new and wonderful with more up to date tools.

The Raindrop technique combines the art of aromatherapy with the techniques of Vita Flex and massage in the application of essential oils to various areas of the body.  This collection is designed to bring physical, mental and emotional balance to the body.  It provides a healthy balance to the body, promotes deep relaxation, facilitates the release of stubborn emotions and works to unwind tight and sore muscles, tendons and ligaments.

Northern Lights Therapy & Spa also offers AromaShapes and AromaWraps that help with inch and weight reduction.
